9. Legal notice — protected designation of origin

The Feta Starter Kit is a do-it-yourself package containing ingredients, cultures and instructions to prepare a feta-style cheese at home in an artisanal way. This package does not contain a finished feta product.

"Feta" is a protected designation of origin (PDO), established in EU Regulation (EC) No 1829/2002. Only cheese produced in specific regions of Greece (Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece, the Peloponnese and the prefecture of Lesbos), made from Greek sheep's and/or goat's milk and in accordance with Greek production specifications, may bear the name "feta".

The cheese you prepare at home with this package does not meet these conditions. You may therefore not refer to your homemade cheese as "feta", nor use this word when selling or promoting your end product. Descriptive terms such as "feta-style", "Greek-style white cheese" or "homemade brined cheese" are permitted as alternatives.

This package is intended for personal and household use only. Selling the self-prepared cheese under the name "feta" may be in conflict with European legislation on protected designations of origin.
